Ministry Team

The goal of our ministry teams is for every member to have a place to volunteer in service to the gospel as we labor together to glorify God and exalt His gospel at Laurel Baptist Church. Before you sign up, review our ministry philosophy:
  1. Membership is a prerequisite for ministry.
  2. Our ministries are not detached from the context of our church.
  3. Our ministry reflects our mission: "To glorify God and exalt his gospel through the preaching of God's word and the fellowship of his church."
  4. Our ministries operate on spiritual gifts, not elected office. Ministry opportunities are appointed based on spiritual maturity and gifting, not volunteerism alone.
  5. Our ministries are overseen by our elders, and coordinated by ministry directors, who provide training, encouragement, and resoruces to all volunteers under their responsibilty.
  6. Our expectations for ministry volunteers are summarized by devotion to the gospel, commitment to the core convictions, faithfulness to the responsibilities, and godliness in testimony.
  7. Our keys to successful ministry service are excellence, humility, love, reliability, and safety.
  8. Our pastors periodically review all ministries for effectivenessa nd purpose. Some ministries will have life cycles. If a ministry is no longer meeting a need, we will give it a decent burial.
  9. Our pastors don't like volunteers in permanently. Some seasons of life demand pauses or transitions that mutually benefit both the volunteer and the church.
  10. Our volunteers should serve in areas where they are S.H.A.P.E.D., and second, where they are most needed. However, no one is ready for ministry until they are willing to humbly serve anywhere.
    1. S-Spiritual Gift (How has God gifted me?)
    2. H-Heart (What do I love to do?)
    3. A-Abilities (What are my natural skills?)
    4. P-Personality (Where does my personality best fit?)
    5. E-Experiences (What life experiences have prepared me?)
    6. D-Doors (What opportunities are available in this season?)
  11. Our church ministry can't do everything for the kingdom, but we will devote our focus to what God has given us to do.
